What do I need to get a firearms permit in MA?


Massachusetts requires all applicants to take a gun safety course in addition to filling out an application at their local police department. The state also requires a Criminal Offender Record Information check, fingerprints, photo and a $100 fee; this is all conducted at your local police station.


Do I need a License to Carry (LTC) for hunting in MA?


MA allows limited hunting with pistols and rifles. You do not need an LTC, but you do need a Firearms Identification Card to use and carry a shotgun for hunting. MA also requires all hunters take a hunters’ education class before they will issue a hunting license.


Do the intermediate and advanced courses focus solely on pistol training?


Intermediate and advanced courses provide instruction on transition training (i.e., pistol-to-rifle and rifle-to-pistol transitions). These courses, however, are taught using your own personal weapons.


Am I guaranteed an LTC permit if I attend MA State Certification Training with any firearms training school?


No, MA is a “may issue” state, your local police chief has the authority to make a judgment on whether or not he or she wants to issue you a concealed weapons permit even after you have met all the legal requirements.


Will I receive my MA LTC at the completion of the MA State Certification Training?


No, you have to apply for your LTC from your police department in the city or town you live in or have a place of business.


Which States honor my MA LTC?


Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Vermont. MA DOES NOT RECOGNIZE LTCs ISSUED BY ANY OTHER STATE.


How long will it take to get my LTC?


It depends on where you live and it may take up to six weeks to be approved.


Will I get to fire a weapon during training at Center Mass Weapons Training?


Yes. MA does not require you to fire a weapon to receive certification, however, we emphasize safety in all of our courses and believe every individual should know how to fire a weapon safely and confidently.


How old do I have to be to get an LTC?


You need to be 21 to obtain an LTC; however, individuals can be as young as 15 years old and still qualify for a MA firearm License (FID)


Can I still get an LTC if I have a police record?


It depends on your record. Please give us a call and we can help you determine if you’re eligible for an LTC. Your local police chief can also answer this question.


Can I bring a guest?


Unfortunately, no. Safety is our primary concern and by not allowing guests, we eliminate the potential to introduce any unnecessary risk into the training environment.
